Newcastle United fans haven’t had a lot to cheer about this season.

It’s been a very tough start for the Magpies, and Steve Bruce is yet to oversee a victory this season.

It looks as though 2021/22 could be a very long campaign.

The fitness of Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin is likely going to be crucial to Newcastle staying in the division.

Right now, the former is injured and hopefully he’ll be back in a couple of weeks.

Saint-Maximin, at least, is in good form and Toon fans are praying the Frenchman can drag the club up the table.

Wilson and Saint-Maximin are the shining lights of the squad right now, but years ago, Newcastle had two very similar players.

Hatem Ben Arfa was a lot like ASM. He was a flair player capable of lifting the crowd in an instant.

And Demba Ba, who recently announced his retirement, was not so dissimilar from Wilson.

The Senegalese star was a fantastic striker at St. James’ Park, and used to torment defenders with his pace and power.

Today, Newcastle have sent out an ‘on this day’ post showing the pair combining back in 2012.

Newcastle were taking on Norwich City in a Premier League game at St. James’ Park.

Ben Arfa collected the ball on the right-wing and cut inside before executing an incredibly precise through ball for Ba.

The striker sprung the offside trap and controlled perfectly, before sliding in a lovely finish.

A fantastic goal, the only one of the game, that came about thanks to two fine players back in the day.

On social media, many Toon fans have reacted to the clip:
