The Magpies still haven’t named a successor to Steve Bruce.
He left the club on October 20, and most fans expected someone in by now.
The new owners are clearly hard at work trying to ensure the right appointment.
It is being reported that an announcement could be made during the international break.
A new man at the helm really can’t come soon enough, with the club still winless so far this season.
Fonseca continues to be linked with Newcastle, and is seemingly a fairly popular choice with a lot of Toon supporters.
He is said to have impressed Amanda Staveley when he had earlier talks.
But any appointment of Fonseca could now become complicated.
The Daily Mail has reported Aston Villa have made ‘informal contact’ with the 48-year-old.
Dean Smith is under mounting pressure at Villa Park, with the club having lost four on the bounce.
Villa take on Southampton on Friday in the last game before the next international break, and another defeat for Smith could be disastrous.

Some Newcastle fans have been reacting to the claim Villa have made contact with the man their club is considering to replace Bruce.
The Mail say that the club are now looking at Unai Emery and Roberto Martinez. There were also claims yesterday that Eddie Howe is back in the frame.
That has not gone down too well with some Toon fans.
