Conflicting reports from journalists regarding Newcastle manager search

Newcastle United’s search for a new manager continues.

The club parted ways with Steve Bruce on October 20 and still haven’t named a permanent successor.

The new owners are clearly overseeing a rigorous and thorough process.

And while they do that, Graeme Jones is taking the team on an interim basis.

Many names have been mentioned at this point.

Paulo Fonseca has been heavily linked, and could well still join as Tottenham Hotspur turn their attention to Antonio Conte.

Following the news of Nuno Espirito Santo’s sacking by Spurs, two journalists have brought an update about Newcastle’s search for a new manager.

Italian journalist Gianluigi Longari has claimed that Spurs are close to appointing Antonio Conte and in addition to that, Newcastle have now opened ‘new’ contacts with Eddie Howe.

But according to German journalist Patrick Berger, sources are telling Sport1 that Unai Emery is the favourite to become the next Toon boss.

He says the Newcastle board are ‘pushing’ it through, as they want to unveil him during the international break. He also claims the club are willing to pay a ‘huge’ transfer fee to get him out of Villarreal.

There aren’t yet any mentions of Newcastle eyeing Nuno Espirito Santo.

Although some fans have already been discussing him as a possible candidate.

There is probably every chance a link will come soon.

It’s all up in the air

There is so much speculation at the moment, and it is bound to be frustrating for some Toon fans who just want someone in now as the team continue to struggle badly.

It is interesting that an Italian and a German journalist have made these claims.

Hopefully Longari is accurate with his Howe claim, as the Englishman worked wonders at Bournemouth.

Although he did ultimately get relegated with the Cherries, he kept them up for four seasons and played great football to boot.
