Newcastle United face West Ham United tomorrow, the Magpies are in great form and are unbeaten in their last five games. The team have won their last three games too against Leeds, Everton and Aston Villa.

There is also an opportunity for Newcastle to break a unique free-kick record. If a direct free-kick is scored it will be a record-breaking four in a row. That’s according to NUFC StatZone, the club’s official stats page on Twitter.

It won’t be easy for the Toon, the Hammers are pushing to finish in the top four at the end of the season. They’ve been one of the most impressive sides this season in the Premier League.

Trippier might be out but Newcastle have Shelvey up their sleeve

There’s no doubt Kieran Trippier has been a big reason as to why the Magpies have scored two of the three direct free-kicks.

His first one came against Everton, as he grabbed Newcastle’s third in a 3-1 win. The goal was Trippier’s first in black and white. The second came last weekend against Aston Villa, just a few days after the Toffees clash.

Unfortunately, the England international sustained an injury in the same match against Villa. It appears he will about for two or three months, according to The Athletic.

However, the Toon do have another free-kick taker up their sleeve. Jonjo Shelvey is more than capable when hitting a dead ball.

He netted the first of the three free-kicks in a row when Newcastle defeated Leeds 1-0 at Elland Road. Furthermore, Shelvey has scored one before against the Hammers. Back in November 2019, he scored a set-piece at the Olympic Stadium in a 3-2 win.

It would be nice to see Newcastle break a unique Premier League record. Granted it’s not the end of the world if they don’t and it will be harder without Trippier. But if anyone can step up it’s Shelvey. He’s found his mojo and has scored some cracking free-kicks before.
