Eddie Howe has praised Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes for what he did for Miguel Almiron during the week.
The pair have been nominated for the Premier League Player of the Month award for October, alongside Toon teammate Kieran Trippier.
They all enjoyed fantastic months in black and white, with Newcastle going unbeaten and winning five out of their six games.
And during that period, Almiron provided six goals. And some of them were absolutely breathtaking.
The Paraguayan is a lot of fans’ pick to win Player of the Month, and he is also who Bruno wants to win the award.
Following his nomination, he delivered a message on Twitter asking supporters to vote for the 28-year-old, rather than himself or Trippier.
It was a selfless gesture from the Brazilian, and his manager has now reacted to what he did.
Howe on what Bruno did during the week
Ahead of Newcastle United’s game against Southampton, Howe has conducted his pre-match press conference, and was asked about Bruno’s act of kindness.
“I thought it was a lovely gesture from Bruno,” he said.
“I don’t think there was any game attached to that, I think he was genuine in his love for Miggy and feels he deserves the accolade. It sums up Bruno and in part sums up the team.
“I think we’re working as a team at the moment, we’re not working as individuals or self-gain. It’s all for the benefit of the club.”
Fans must do as Bruno says
The Toon Army will be keen to do as Bruno says. Almiron absolutely deserves to be named POTM. While Bruno and Trippier have been excellent, Almiron’s rise and heroics deserve to be recognised.
And as Howe says, Bruno’s action sums him up as a person, and shows why he was brought to Newcastle. Not only is he an excellent footballer but he is also a wonderful person. He has fitted in brilliantly to the group, and that is something that has surprised Howe.
But Newcastle have a great team ethic right now. And it is bringing excellent performances on the pitch. Every player has a clear and defined role, while everyone wants the best for each other. There are no egos.
That is epitomised by the love Almiron is getting for his upturn in fortunes.
Howe has created an incredible team spirit, and is getting every ounce possible out of each player. Long may it continue.
