Newcastle have appointed Eddie Howe as their new manager but the search continues for a sporting director.
90Min are one of the outlets to report that the Magpies are in talks with Michael Emenalo.
Emenalo has formerly worked at Monaco and Chelsea, forming an impressive track record.
But he is not the only name under consideration at St James’ Park, according to the report.
They claim that former Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar is also in the frame.
The report says that the Dutchman, who is currently the chief executive of Ajax, has been mooted.
Newcastle apparently want to make an appointment within the next couple of weeks.
The club also want a new chief executive before the end of the year, and that might be a better fit for van der Sar.
In October 2020, van der Sar was described as ‘exceptional’ by his former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
The Dutchman is calm, knowledgeable and has a clear vision of what he wants from a football club.
He would be a very good choice as chief executive, and could adjust to a sporting director role too.
It looks like Emenalo is ahead in the race as it stands, but it also seems like Newcastle are not about to make an imminent appointment.
