One of Newcastle United’s former academy players has now urged Eddie Howe to sign Geordie defender who is enjoying an unbelievable season in the Championship.
Newcastle are understood to be one of the teams in the market for Ipswich’s Leif Davis who was actually a season ticket holder at St James’ Park.
Former academy player Tom Allan, who is now at Gateshead, has urged the club on X to sign the Championship star who has already matched the record for the most assists from a defender in the second division.
Academy graduate wants Howe to bring star back to Newcastle
Davis and Ipswich are having a brilliant campaign in the Championship having only been promoted from League One late year and are currently in the driving seat to win promotion to the Premier League.
Davis has already grabbed 14 assists in 33 appearances at left-back, a record for a defender, and netted his first goal of the season on Tuesday as he scored a late winner against Bristol City.
Newcastle are known to be in the market for a new left-back given Dan Burn’s struggles this season and Davis looks like he might be ready to make the step up to top-flight football next season.
Allan, who made just one appearances for Newcastle in the FA Cup when he assisted Joelinton in a 4-1 win over Rochdale, has made his thoughts on the defender known on social media.
On X, the former Newcastle midfielder posted: “Bring him home”.

Newcastle need a left-back with more attacking threat
Currently, it does feel like Newcastle are very limited in what they can do down the left flank with Burn’s limited ability running down the wing, and they may look to amend that in the summer.
Kieran Trippier has showed just how valuable it can be to have an attacking outlet in the full-back positions as the England international has already grabbed 10 assists in the league this season.
There is the option of playing Tino Livramento in that position, but Howe would surely rather someone more suited to left-back to be included in his Newcastle team while Livramento fills in for Trippier.
Of course, they would also need the player to want the move, but given Davis’ history with Newcastle it shouldn’t be too hard to persuade him to join the club.
