Newcastle United quietly unveiled a new sponsor during their win over Wolves.

The Magpies made it nine wins in a row on Wednesday night, as Newcastle United beat Wolves 3-0.

It was a comfortable victory, with Alexander Isak bagging a brace and Anthony Gordon netting Newcastle’s third of the night.

The Magpies’ win against Wolves came on the day that it was announced that the club had not breached PSR during the latest accounting period, and in the middle of a January transfer window in which Paul Mitchell is struggling to bring in reinforcements.

Newcastle United must sell before they buy, as PSR continues to cause the club issues. Lloyd Kelly is attracting interest, while Miguel Almiron could be on his way back to the MLS with Atlanta United.

Player sales will help, as Newcastle United aim to increase their revenue.

They can also do that with sponsorship deals, and a new partner was unveiled during Wednesday night’s victory over Wolves.

During the game, the electronic boards showcased Newcastle’s usual sponsors, such as Saudia, InPost, Sela and BetMGM.

However, there was also a new advert, with PIF’s logo on show for all the world to see.

PIF bought Newcastle United from Mike Ashley in October 2021, and have since struck sponsorship deals with affiliated companies, such as Saudia.

However, this is the first time that PIF themselves have been advertised within St James’ Park, in a move that will surely help the club’s PSR position.

It is a very interesting development, and fans will be curious to know how much money the club is making from this partnership. Rivals will also demand answers, as the Newcastle United owners are effectively sponsoring themselves with this deal.

Newcastle United avoid PSR breach

Back in June, there was a real fear that Newcastle United would breach PSR.

That is why the club ended up selling Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh, while they also sanctioned Dan Ashworth’s move to Manchester United.

Newcastle United officials did whatever they could to comply, as PIF did not want a points deduction.

It was painful, but their efforts were not in vein. It was announced on Wednesday that no Premier League club had breached PSR during the three-year period of 2021 to 2024.

Ahead of the announcement, Eddie Howe spoke about the club’s desire to comply with PSR last summer.

“The breaching of financial fair play for us was something we fought really hard in the summer to not be in that position,” he said.

“That’s why the departures, the ones we didn’t want to happen, had to happen. Hopefully we’re not on that list.”

Newcastle United were not on that list, but PSR problems continue. While the Magpies would love to build from a position of strength this month, that is not going to happen without player sales.
