The tunnel at St James’ Park has been given a new look by the ownership at Newcastle United.

If Newcastle United plan on returning to the top of English football, they will need St James’ Park to be a fortress.

The fiery atmosphere at St James’ Park for the Carabao Cup semi-final against Arsenal shows just how impactful a home crowd can be.

Heading into that match, Newcastle had lost back-to-back home games against Bournemouth and Fulham, meaning the Magpies have now won six of their 12 matches on Tyneside this season.

Since the takeover in 2021, PIF have made several changes to St James’ Park, including replacing the signs put up at the ground under Mike Ashley’s reign.

Those changes are still being made, and this time it was the tunnel that has been refurbished.

Shortly after the takeover, PIF built a new area next to the changing room in late 2021. Under Howe, dressing room photos have become a regular occurence.

Now, PIF have turned their attention to updating the tunnel that leads out to St James’ Park, with before-and-after photos showing a new look.

As reported by Dominic Scurr, there have been changes “behind the scenes” with a new lick of paint for the tunnel.

Murals have been added either side of the tunnel with players and fans wearing the new up-to-date Newcastle shirt, made by Adidas and sponsored by Sela.

Newcastle chiefs still deciding on St James’ Park future

Changes continue to be made at St James’ Park, but Newcastle could soon be moving out of the 52,000-capacity stadium.

PIF are considering a £2bn project for a new stadium that would emulate Wembley. Capacity at a new venue could grow as high as 70,000.

Alternatively, Newcastle will consider expanding St James’ Park in what would be an £800m project.

There are a few issues regarding a new stadium being built. Firstly, Newcastle may have to ground share during the construction phase, and secondly the location of a new stadium could cause controversy.

PIF are expected to announce a stadium decision this season after conducting fan surveys and assessing both options.
