The real reason why there was no dressing room photo after Newcastle United’s amazing win vs Arsenal

Newcastle United picked up their biggest win of the season away to Arsenal on Tuesday night.

The Magpies have now won seven games in a row, including three away days against the Premier League’s ‘big six’.

But this was the most impressive, as Newcastle United beat Arsenal 2-0 in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg.

It was Eddie Howe’s first ever win at the Emirates Stadium. For Newcastle United, it was just their second ever win there since it was built.

The Magpies produced the perfect away performance, and now supporters are dreaming of Wembley. Travel plans are being made and hotels are getting booked, but those inside the club will not be getting ahead of themselves.

Why there was no team photo for Newcastle United’s win over Arsenal on Tuesday night

And that is why Newcastle United’s seventh consecutive win was not followed by a seventh consecutive dressing room photo.

Ordinarily when the Magpies win a game, they take a group photo inside the dressing room and post in on social media. Fans love it, and rivals hate it.

However, that did not happen on Tuesday night, despite the 2-0 victory being Newcastle’s most important of the season.

That is because it is technically only half-time. There is another game of football to play, with the Gunners heading to Tyneside for the second leg on February 5th.

It would be naïve of Newcastle to celebrate winning at the Emirates too much, as it will count for nothing if they do not get the job done at St James’ Park and advance to the final.

What happened when Newcastle were in the Carabao Cup semi-final in 2023

The same thing happened when Newcastle United were in the 2023 Carabao Cup semi-final.

They took on Southampton two years ago, and won the first leg 1-0 thanks to a Joelinton goal.

The Brazilian gave Newcastle the advantage ahead of the second leg, but Newcastle did not take a dressing room photo.

All celebrations were reserved for the following week, when the Magpies won 2-1 at St James’ Park to win the tie 3-1 on aggregate and advance to the final. Those celebrations included that iconic Dan Burn moment, where he did his best Paul Gascoigne impression and declared he was off to get his suit measured.

Hopefully there will be a repeat of those scenes when Newcastle United play Arsenal in the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg in four weeks.
