Newcastle have short term concerns which have been allayed slightly by a recent run of form which has pulled them away from the relegation zone.
That means the long term picture in terms of how far this takeover can carry the club can be looked at a little more.
Sky Sports pundits Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher were asked at the Overlap Live how long they think it will take until Newcastle are battling for the biggest honours in the game – the Premier League and the Champions League.
“Five years, six years, if they spend a load of money,” said Neville when asked the question.
Carragher disagreed, saying: “I think about ten years before they’re really competing. I mean, look how much Man United have spent, spent lots of money right now and it’s really tough.
“They’ll be able to entice players but the other top clubs have still got good money. Most players will still pick the established clubs. I think it will be a lot tougher than people think.”
Carragher is right to say it will not be easy, and Manchester City went through a wave of players who were not good enough to take them to the very top before the likes of David Silva, Yaya Toure and Sergio Aguero came in.
There will be bumps in the road and the example of Manchester United is pertinent in terms of spending around £1 billion and still not being realistic contenders.
But Newcastle had a good first window and look set to go into their first summer still as a Premier League club, which will make a major difference.
As for how long it will take to reach the very top, time will tell.
