It just keeps getting better and better for Newcastle United midfielder Joelinton.
The 26-year-old has turned his Toon career around under Eddie Howe, becoming a key player at St James’ Park as the Magpies achieved survival during the 2021/22 campaign. It resulted in him being named player of the season.
Then he proved it was not just a flash in the pan, playing a pivotal role as Newcastle qualified for the Champions League and reached the Carabao Cup final at Wembley. It was a sensational campaign, and one where Joelinton was involved in key moments. It was actually his best season ever in a Toon shirt, boasting 11 goal contributions in all competitions.
Now that form has been recognised by his country, with Joelinton being called up to the Brazil squad for the first time ever. But the good times did not end there, with the £40million man starting against Guinea and scoring on his debut.
It was a wonderful occasion for Joelinton, who was praised for his performance by Ramon Menezes. The Brazil manager said that the Toon ace was ‘very good’ on his first ever international appearance.
And now it looks like he is going to get a chance to do it all over again.
Joelinton set for second Brazil start tonight
Brazil are in action once again tonight (Tuesday), as they face Senegal in a friendly in Lisbon. The game kicks off at 8pm BST.
It appears that the Selecao side has been leaked ahead of the game, and it is good news for Joelinton. According to Globo, he is going to start in midfield once again, playing alongside Casemiro and Lucas Paqueta.
That means that Bruno Guimaraes will start on the bench, just like he did against Guinea. The 25-year-old was brought on as a substitute in the second half, and actually replaced his Toon teammate Joelinton.
They will hope to get the chance to play together against Senegal and showcase the incredible understanding they have that has made them such a special combination at St James’ Park.
But for Joelinton, a second ever appearance in Brazil colours awaits. Hopefully it is just as good as his first.
