The rise of Joelinton is complete after the 26-year-old made his international debut last night for Brazil following his huge transformation at Newcastle United.

Not only did Joelinton start for Brazil, he got himself on the scoresheet making the ultimate dream start to life as a fully fledged Brazil international.

It wasn’t a goal that will live long in the memory of any neutrals, but Joelinton and indeed, Newcastle fans, will remember it for the rest of his life. Poking home from a yard out after a brilliant save from the Guinea goalkeeper fell to Joelinton who managed to meet it with his leg and direct the ball back into the goal.

Joelinton will never forget what he did last night

Joelinton had to be taken off with a knock in the second half and was replaced by his best mate, Bruno Guimaraes, but it didn’t dampen his spirits posting on Instagram: “17.06.2023 date that will be marked forever in my memory believe dreams can come true . Proud to represent my country”

Callum Wilson, who also scored for his country this weekend was quick to congratulate his £40million teammate, commenting on his Instagram post: “So happy for you niño”

From the striker who couldn’t score an open goal from a yard out, to the man who kicked the ball into his own face, to the best box-to-box midfielder in the Premier League to Brazil goalscoring international. Has anybody, outside Roy of the Rovers had a career like this?

Joelinton will be coming back to Newcastle hoping that his contract extension is all ready for him with a pay bump from his current £80,000-a-week deal, and frankly, who would deny him a raise after what he’s done under Eddie Howe?
