Things have been tricky for him for a large percentage of his time at the club since his move in the summer of 2019.

The £40 million price tag he never chose has seemingly weighed on him quite heavily.

He has had a fair amount of criticism over the past couple of years for some of his performances under Steve Bruce.

But Joelinton has looked really good this season so far.

He was one of the better players while Bruce was still at the club and since Howe has come in he has really shone.

Fans loved his display against Norwich City when he went and help out in midfield after the team went down to 10 men. And they also praised him for his performance against Burnley.

Speaking about his fellow South American, Almiron said: “He is really on the up since the new coach arrived. Like I’ve always said, Joelinton is a great player. Apart from being a really top person, he’s an excellent player as well, I believe.

“It makes me very happy to see.”

Lots of people have always maintained that there is a good player in Joelinton.

It could well be that Howe is the man to bring it out of him.

It would be absolutely fantastic to see him finally flourish after all the stick he has taken, especially from rival fanbases.
