Eddie Howe has stated that Miguel Almiron is going to be out of action for six weeks with a thigh injury, but the attacker has provided Newcastle fans with some encouragement during the international break.
It was reported hours before Newcastle‘s win over Nottingham Forest that Almiron had picked up an injury, which was later confirmed by the manager.
The Magpies got the job done without him, but it is still a major blow at a crucial stage of the season. Almiron is our top scorer, finding the net 11 times so far.
However, he is now on the sidelines, where he is joined by January recruit Anthony Gordon. Newcastle’s wide options are depleted right now, but Almiron’s social media activity suggests that he could be back sooner than anticipated.
Miguel Almiron making huge progress in bid to recover from injury
While most of Howe’s team are in Dubai for a warm weather training camp, Almiron has stayed at home. He posted a video on Wednesday to his official Instagram account of him working in the club gym.

That was very encouraging, and now he has gone one step further on Thursday. The latest story on his official Instagram account shows him running on the grass.
Considering it is less than a week since Howe said he would be out of action for six weeks, it is extremely surprising to see Almiron running. It would perhaps suggest that he is closer to a return than anticipated.
That would be a major boost, as Newcastle have a huge game immediately after the international break. The Magpies welcome Manchester United to St James’ Park for a game that could have a huge impact on the race for the Champions League.
Hopefully we get an update soon, as losing Almiron for the full six weeks would mean he misses a huge number of games. Six weeks from Nottingham Forest win takes us to the end of April, which would mean the 29-year-old would potentially miss eight matches in total.
