Mehrdad Ghodoussi has just sent a four-word message to Newcastle fans ahead of Man City

Newcastle United co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi has issued a plea to fans ahead of tonight’s Carabao Cup game against Manchester City.

The Magpies face Man City at St James’ Park in the third round of the Carabao Cup, as they begin their quest to go one further than they did last season.

Eddie Howe’s side made it all the way to the final during last year’s competition, but fell at the final hurdle. Newcastle lost 2-0 against Manchester United at Wembley, as the wait for a trophy goes on.

Last season’s campaign started with an away trip to Tranmere Rovers, but this year we have got Manchester City at home. The only way Newcastle could have got a harder draw would have been if it was at the Etihad Stadium rather than St James’ Park.

The home crowd will hopefully give Newcastle a boost, and now fans have received a message from Mehrdad Ghodoussi about what they must remember for tonight’s game.

During last season’s run to the final, Wor Flags encouraged fans to bring their black and white scarves to St James’ Park. It created an incredible visual before, during and after the games, and now they are looking to do it again.

Wor Flags’ plan has received the support of the owners, with Ghodoussi issuing a friendly reminder to Toon supporters who have tickets for tonight’s game.

He wrote on Twitter: “Don’t forget your scarves.”

It is a simple initiative from Wor Flags, but one that worked brilliantly last season. The sea of scarves looked fantastic, and was an easy way for every fan to be involved in the pre-match display.

It certainly worked, with Newcastle using home advantage to go all the way to Wembley.

Howe will be keen to do the same this season, but it will be much tougher as they juggle Champions League football with their domestic commitments.

That could lead to multiple changes to the starting lineup tonight, but it will still be a side that Howe feels is capable of getting through to the next round.
