While it’s difficult to know what goes on behind closed doors, everyone appears to be pulling in the same direction.

Even with Eddie Howe largely picking the same team for much of the season, the Newcastle manager has seemingly fostered quite the team spirit on Tyneside.

Indeed, Jacob Murphy has frequently spoken of his delight in helping the team when selected, seemingly happy to play the back-up role if it helps.

That is not an easy act to balance. Though Newcastle hardly boast the biggest squad in the world, keeping them all happy cannot be a straightforward.

There are seemingly good vibes running throughout the squad, perhaps best typified by the post-match photo Newcastle pose for after a win.

After the club’s official channel had put that picture on Twitter following Thursday night’s big win over Everton, Mark Gillespie responded.

Despite not featuring all season, he clearly feels part of the set-up.

The 31-year-old simply wrote: “Oh what a feeling, punching through the ceiling.”

Newcastle really are making an impact

Presumably, Gillespie is responding to the fact Newcastle look set to qualify for the Champions League.

In just one full season of the PIF era, they have reached a first domestic cup final in 24 years and seem bound to enter Europe’s elite competition.

That represents remarkable progress. Of course, the money has helped, but the work Howe has done to bring the players he inherited from Steve Bruce up to a new level makes the rapid-fire turnaround all the sweeter.

Life is good within the Newcastle squad. They are scaling new heights and even the supporting cast seem to be reveling in it.

Long may it continue.
