Three things we learned as Newcastle beat Everton

Everton away on a Thursday night was a potential banana skin for Newcastle United. However, Eddie Howe’s side are returning to the North East with another three points.

It was an uncomfortable start for the Magpies, with the Everton players matching the crowd’s energy with their relentless pressing.

But Newcastle weathered the storm, and were able to run out convincing winners at Goodison Park. It is another huge victory in the race to qualify for the Champions League.

Newcastle have beat Everton 4-1, and here are three things we learned from a fantastic night on Merseyside

Callum Wilson is now Newcastle’s top scorer this season

Newcastle United have a new top scorer this season, with Callum Wilson replacing Miguel Almiron at the top of the charts.

The 31-year-old scored in the first half at Goodison Park – a real poacher’s goal after Joelinton’s shot was saved.

His second was a glorious strike, curling in from distance past a helpless Jordan Pickford.

The number nine now has 13 goals this season, making this his best ever campaign in a Newcastle shirt.

Newcastle finally win wearing the ‘Saudi kit’

At the sixth time of asking, Newcastle have won a competitive game in their ‘Saudi kit’.

The Magpies wore their third strip at Goodison Park, which initially looked like a bad omen. It has not brought good luck since its inception, with Newcastle drawing four games and losing one.

But now it has brought three points, in what could be the final game it is used for.

Alexander Isak is magic

That assist for Newcastle’s fourth goal of the evening was absolutely out of this world.

Alexander Isak picks the ball up near the halfway line, leads the Everton defenders a merry dance and sets Jacob Murphy up for his third goal in two games. His footwork, speed and close control on the touchline was outstanding. It was unbelievable.

Isak has done some special things in a Toon shirt, but this was absolutely magic.

The 23-year-old is not just a goalscorer, he can be a provider too. His cameo on the flank will give Howe belief that he can start Wilson and Isak together without shifting away from his preferred 4-3-3 formation.
