Marcus Rashford's two word reaction after news comes out about Newcastle's Kieran Trippier

It has been a sensational season for Newcastle United, and it has been a brilliant personal year for Kieran Trippier.

The Newcastle defender has been a picture of consistency for the Magpies, with Trippier featuring in every single Toon game so far this season with just one to go.

The 32-year-old has been in remarkable form, establishing himself as the best right-back in the country with his performances. He has been an attacking force with 10 assists in all competitions, while he has been resolute defensively. Trippier’s one-on-one defending has been exemplary, proving himself to be the complete modern day full-back.

From his leadership skills to the linkup with Miguel Almiron, Trippier has been absolutely pivotal to Newcastle’s success – and that is why he has won the club’s player of the season award.

Last year it went to Joelinton, who was in contention once again this time out, but no one can deny that Trippier is a worthy winner.

Kieran Trippier inundated with messages after Newcastle success

Following the news, Trippier took to his official Instagram account to pose with the trophy.

Alongside the picture, he wrote: “To be awarded @nufc player of the season is a real honour. Absolutely delighted to be able to celebrate this award on the same night the team secured Champions league football. St James was rocking last night, thank you to everyone.”

Trippier’s post prompted multiple replies from figures of Newcastle’s past and present. Bruno Guimaraes messaged saying ‘congrats bro’, while Trippier’s understudy Harrison Ashby hailed his achievement. There was also a message from Toon legend Alan Shearer, who said that the honour was ‘well deserved’.

That is a sentiment that is shared by Trippier’s England teammate and Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford.

He replied: “Fully deserved.”

There was also a message from former Spurs teammate Mousa Dembele, who wrote: “Congrats legend.”

Trippier a deserving winner

Rashford and Dembele know exactly how good Trippier is. The latter struggled up against him at St James’ Park back in April, with the Magpies winning 2-0 to get revenge for the Carabao Cup loss at the start of the year.

As for Dembele, he shared a dressing room with Trippier for years. His kind words will no doubt be appreciated, considering the high regard the Belgian is held in by all of his former teammates.

Newcastle struck gold with Trippier when they signed him for £12million, and there is no doubt that he is a deserving winner of Newcastle’s player of the season award.

We only got a glimpse of the defender last season before he was struck down by injury, but now he is back and playing the best football of his career. It has won him individual praise, but the most important accolade is qualifying for the Champions League.
