Marcus Rashford injury update could impact Newcastle’s top four hopes

Fine margins could settle the race to finish in the top four, and news coming out of Manchester United could potentially have an impact on Newcastle United.

Man United are currently fourth in the Premier League, behind Newcastle on goal difference. Both sides have Liverpool breathing down their necks, with Jurgen Klopp’s side just one point behind.

The Reds are hunting down Newcastle and Man United, waiting for one of them to slip up. It could be the Magpies on Thursday night, with Eddie Howe’s side taking on Brighton at St James’ Park.

Newcastle know that any mistake will likely be capitalised on – and some pundits believe the Magpies are more likely to drop out of the top four than Man United.

That is up for debate, but Erik ten Hag has just received news that will certainly strengthen his side’s bid to qualify for the Champions League.

Marcus Rashford back in training for Manchester United

Pictures from Manchester United’s training ground on Wednesday show that Marcus Rashford is back in training. He has been out of action with a leg injury, missing the win over Wolves.

The forward is now back, and will be ready to feature in Man United’s final three games of the season. They face Bournemouth, Chelsea and Fulham.

They are surely less likely to slip up now that Rashford is back in the fold. He has been their best player this season, boasting 29 goals in all competitions.

While Man United get stronger, Newcastle are arguably weaker. Sean Longstaff is still not back from an ankle injury, while Jacob Murphy is now a doubt for the game against Brighton.

But despite all of this, it is still in Newcastle’s hands. If Howe’s side can win two games then nobody can stop them. Six points and we will be a Champions League club.

The return of Rashford could have a major impact on the race for the top four – but it can only hinder us if Newcastle slip up.
