TalkSPORT’s Darren Bent and Andy Goldstein have predicted the final Premier League top four and it’s not good for Newcastle United fans.

Andy Goldstein and Darren Bent have been discussing the final top four positions for this season’s Premier League with Liverpool hitting form at the right time.

Bent is particularly impressed with the Reds and feels that it would just take one minor slip by Newcastle or Manchester United for them to pounce, saying on TalkSPORT this morning: “They’re coming. Liverpool. All it takes is one of you to draw a game and they’ve got you.”

Bent and Goldstein both predict Newcastle to miss out on top-four

Despite Newcastle’s fate being in their own hands with a point and a game advantage over Liverpool, fans are beginning to get slightly anxious given their run-in.

Brighton are a total enigma at the minute. They got smashed by Everton 5-1 and then beat Arsenal 3-0, so Newcastle are hoping it’s the side that faced Everton who make the journey to St James’ Park tomorrow, but it’s definitely not going to be a straight forward night for the Magpies.

They then follow that up with another home tie against relegation-threatened Leicester on Monday which should be seen as an easy win on paper, but, games aren’t played on paper. Then we end the season away at struggling Chelsea. The Blues have been absolutely dire this season and seem to have got worse under Frank Lampard, so it would just be typical Newcastle to go on and lose.

Manchester United’s run in sees them face Bournemouth, Chelsea and Fulham which seems a lot more favourable with none of those clubs with anything left to play for this season.

Liverpool meanwhile face Europe chasing Aston Villa and relegated Southampton. One tricky and one fairly easy fixture.

Newcastle have their fate in their own hands

With all that taken into account, and despite the advantages Newcastle hold, both Darren Bent and Andy Goldstein came to the conclusion that Liverpool will finish fourth and Newcastle will miss out on the Champions League.

My 30-odd years of supporting Newcastle has me believing they’re right, but the defiant part of me hates it when other people say it. The logical part of me also says that we should absolutely hold on to a Champions League spot. Part of me even expects us to have it wrapped up by Monday.

If Newcastle beat Brighton tomorrow and Villa beat Liverpool then it’s all over. That’s how much of an advantage we have.

So you know what, Bent and Goldstein. You’re wrong. I’m not having it. Newcastle will hold on to that top-four spot, I’m ignoring history and putting my faith in Eddie Howe and this group of players.
