Marco Silva admits Newcastle have something that Fulham simply don’t

Fulham manager Marco Silva is very envious of Newcastle United.

His side have lost to the Magpies twice at St James’ Park this season, falling to a late 2-1 defeat on both occasions.

Newcastle United’s latest win against Fulham came in the Carabao Cup, as Eddie Howe took another step towards retaining the trophy his team won back in March.

Who was your MOTM against Fulham? For what it’s worth, I thought Jacob Ramsey was very good 😍😍

The Newcastle United manager made five changes to the team that lost to Sunderland, while he also had some strong options on the bench. That depth played a key role, with Sandro Tonali setting up Lewis Miley’s winner.

And while Newcastle United want more signings in January, Marco Silva is left to bemoan the depth that Eddie Howe has at his disposal.

Newcastle United had too much depth for Fulham says Marco Silva

Speaking to ITV Sport on X immediately after Newcastle United’s Carabao Cup win over Fulham, Silva admitted that his side simply do not have the same calibre of depth as the Magpies.

“I don’t want to talk too much about it because it looks like excuses,” he said.

“If you want to have an impact in a game, you see the five changes that they made, the type of players they brought on, you see their value, what they cost them, we’re talking about two completely different situations.

“It is what it is. It’s about progression. If you want to progress and develop, if you want to rotate in the final stages of these competitions and to have an impact from the bench then we need to develop as a football club.”

The five players who Howe brought on were Tonali, Nick Woltemade, Anthony Gordon, Anthony Elanga and Alex Murphy. In total, they cost a combined £224million.

Winning again would be TWICE as nice!

That first Carabao Cup win was special, but retaining the trophy would be even better. Which would mean more to you? 🤩

Eddie Howe is struggling despite Newcastle United’s depth

It says a lot about the injury crisis Newcastle United are enduring that they are down to the bare bones in defence even with all of their depth.

Heading into Saturday’s game against Chelsea, Eddie Howe is struggling to piece together a back four. Tino Livramento is injured, while Lewis Hall is a doubt.

The Magpies’ injury problems are so severe that Lewis Miley is having to play at right-back, as Newcastle eye a new full-back in January.

But while Newcastle are short of options at the back, they are spoilt for choice at the other end of the pitch. Howe has six forwards who he can rotate, much to the envy of Marco Silva.
