Marcelo Brozovic's latest comments show Newcastle never really stood a chance as star signs new Inter contract

Newcastle United were linked with a move for Marcelo Brozovic back in November.

The Magpies supposedly had interest in the Croatia international who at the time, had 18 months left on his contract.

Newcastle felt there might have been a deal to be done.

HITC Sport's First New Signing REVEALED

The club supposedly looked into making a move in January.

Ultimately though, the club never made a move and in the end, Bruno Guimaraes arrived at St. James’ Park – a move that has proven to be a real success so far.

Earlier this week, Inter made the announcement that Brozovic had signed a new deal with them. He’s now set to be with the club until 2026.

Newcastle may have been linked with the player prior to that development, but it seems the Magpies never really stood a chance.

That’s because Brozovic has commented after signing his new contract, saying he didn’t even want to talk to other clubs if Inter wanted to keep him.

He said (via Inter official website): “I’m delighted to have signed a new deal with Inter. I was desperate to renew my contract and the club was aware of that.

“I’ve never held talks with any other clubs out of respect for Inter and their fans. I’d like to thank the club and I’ll say it again, I’m so happy for today.

“I’ve always said to my agents that I wouldn’t want to speak to any other club unless Inter told me that they weren’t interested in renewing my deal.”

Newcastle may well have had genuine interest in midfield maestro Brozovic.

But it sounds very much as though there was never any real hope of the club landing him.

Inter wanted to keep him on the books, and the player is clearly extremely happy at the club.

Obviously he has it good at Inter. He’s a quality player who the fans love, and he is now playing a team that is competing for trophies.

It makes sense he’d want to extend there. He would have been a brilliant addition for Newcastle, but the Magpies need not be too downbeat.

Bruno has the potential to become a brilliant player for Newcastle and ensure there are no regrets of Brozovic.
