Newcastle boss Steve Bruce has been named Premier League Manager of the Month for April.
The 60-year-old won the award ahead of Manchester United’s Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Leeds United’s Marcelo Bielsa and West Brom manager Sam Allardyce.
It’s a well-deserved honour for Bruce. Newcastle’s resurgence in April played a key role in keeping us in the Premier League.

It is all the more impressive considering how poor the Magpies were during December, January, February and March.
After the defeat to Brighton on March 20th, it looked like the writing was on the wall for Bruce and Newcastle.
But the response has been wildly impressive. In April, Newcastle drew with Tottenham and Liverpool, and beat West Ham and Burnley.
Those eight points were enough to earn Bruce the honour of being manager of the month.
He’s been heavily criticised this season, but deserves praise for dragging us out of the desperate situation we were in. But it shouldn’t be forgotten that he was the man that got us into that situation.

Regardless, Newcastle’s form in April has helped guide them to safety. And it’s also won Brucey an award.
Manchester United fans aren’t happy though, as they believe the honour should have gone to their manager.
The Red Devils were also unbeaten in April. However, they had a better record with three wins and a draw.
While Solskjaer deserves praise too for a strong month, his feat wasn’t as impressive as Bruce’s.
Manchester United did what they were expected to in April. No one expected Newcastle to do as well as they did.
But that hasn’t stopped Manchester United fans calling out the Premier League for the mistreatment of their manager.
