Most Newcastle United fans expected Steve Bruce to get the sack on Sunday.
The Magpies were battered 3-0 by relegation rivals Brighton, in a game that felt like the end for the current boss.
After every goal that went in, I said to myself: ‘There’s no way he’ll survive this’.

Yet Bruce has reportedly retained the support of the board, and won’t be going anywhere.
This came as a huge shock to Newcastle fans on Sunday.
And according to the Chronicle, some Newcastle players actually thought the manager had been sacked in the aftermath of the 3-0 defeat.
This has been a grim season for Newcastle, with multiple lows. But Saturday night’s result was the worst of the lot.
The Magpies offered absolutely nothing against a club who they’re ‘fighting’ with to stay in the division. On Saturday’s evidence, only one team wants to stay in the Premier League.
The players looked flat throughout, unable to lay a glove on Graham Potter’s side.
According to the Chronicle, the players were expected a ‘dressing room blast’ from the manager after the game, but that didn’t come.

This reportedly resulted in some players thinking Bruce had been relieved of his duties.
But, as we all know, that didn’t happen.
So we’ve now got a manager who has somehow gone beyond breaking point and a set of players who were left just feeling sorry for themselves on Saturday night.
The club is an absolute shambles from top to bottom, and someone needs to step up and rescue it.
It clearly won’t be Mike Ashley based on his stance. It certainly won’t be Lee Charnley. Bruce isn’t up to it.
But are the players up to it? We’ll find out at the end of the season, but the signs aren’t good right now.
