Malick Thiaw found exactly the right word when congratulating Lewis Miley for his brilliant performance as Newcastle United beat Everton.

At long last, Eddie Howe’s side ended their away day curse as Newcastle United beat Everton 4-1 in the Premier League.

That was their first victory on the road in the division since April and Newcastle academy graduate Miley played a key role in it.

If Malick Thiaw wasn’t your MOTM against Everton, who was?

Lewis Hall? Tino Livramento? Lewis Miley?

The 19-year-old scored and assisted in the game, becoming the second-youngest Newcastle player to have ever done that in Premier League history.

Miley was a standout player for the Magpies on Merseyside, along with Thiaw. The German scored two headers, the first of which was from a corner expertly delivered by his teenage teammate.

Thiaw was rightly full of praise for the midfielder.

Malick Thiaw describes Lewis Miley as “immense” after Newcastle United win

Such was the relief winning a first away game in seven long months, most of the Newcastle players celebrated by posting on Instagram.

Miley was no different, captioning a collage of images: “Great night! Buzzing with that win & to be on the scoresheet.”

Thiaw, Bruno Guimaraes, Joe Willock and Lewis Hall all replied but it was the German defender’s message that summed it up best.

He simply commented: “Immense.”

That’s an apt description of Miley’s performance. Even aside from the goal and assist, the way in which he operated in general play was very impressive.

Eddie Howe on Lewis Miley. Does he need to play more often now?

“When you see him play, he plays with a real maturity. He very rarely gets flustered about anything, he’s very level and very calm.

“Not your normal average teenager.”

Newcastle United vindicated after blocking Lewis Miley exit

Back in September, Geordie Boot Boys were told that Miley wanted to leave Newcastle on loan as he looked to bank more first-team football at a crucial stage in his career.

Obviously, that was blocked despite interest from Ipswich, and the club have been vindicated in that decision.

Miley could be forgiven for wanting to guarantee more game time at that point and may well have been disappointed that he wasn’t allowed to go.

While he’s not been a regular starter this season, action has been forthcoming for him under Howe.

With the games piling up thick and fast right now, he’s surely going to continue to play an important role in the fixtures to come.
