The injuries are mounting up for Newcastle United, with Alexander Isak the latest to fall victim.
The 24-year-old scored a wonderful brace during Sunday’s 2-2 draw with West Ham, taking his tally to seven goals for the season.
He nearly made it eight, but his hat-trick effort clattered off the post to deny Isak the match ball. Despite the miss, Eddie Howe was delighted with the striker, describing his performance as ‘magnificent‘.
However, there was some concern when he was taken off in the 86th minute. He was replaced by Callum Wilson, with Howe confirming after the match that Isak was substituted due to injury.
The £63million man has since withdrawn from the Sweden squad, and a new report from the Northern Echo has provided an update on just how severe his injury is.

Boost for Newcastle as Alexander Isak has not suffered a major injury
According to the Northern Echo, Isak has only suffered a minor injury.
While no injury is ever good, this is certainly an encouraging update. The fact that he is not fit enough to play for Sweden is cause for concern, but hopefully the two week rest will do him the world of good.
Newcastle‘s next game is on October 21st against Crystal Palace, and it remains to be seen if Isak will be fit for the match at St James’ Park.

The fact that he has only suffered a minor injury will give fans some encouragement that he will be involved, especially with another crunch Champions League game taking place on Tyneside just days later. Newcastle welcome Borussia Dortmund to St James’ Park on October 25th.
Luckily for Howe, he is not sweating on Isak’s fitness too much due to the return of Callum Wilson. He was able to play the latter stages against West Ham at the weekend, and should be fully fit when domestic football returns the weekend after next.
