Newcastle United are reportedly considering reigniting their interest in Romain Perraud despite the left-back only arriving at Southampton six months ago.
The 24-year-old was linked with the Magpies over the summer, but instead joined the Saints. The Telegraph state that Steve Bruce was told there wasn’t enough money to sign Perraud.
But the Magpies’ interest remains, with head of recruitment Steve Nickson reportedly a big fan.

According to the Telegraph, Perraud is on Eddie Howe and PIF’s list of left-back options.
Everton outcast Lucas Digne was also on the list. And after falling out with Rafael Benitez, it seemed like a move could be a real possibility given a replacement for him has already been signed in Vitaliy Mykolenko.
But football journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed that St James’ Park isn’t ‘even an option’ for the former Barcelona man.
Could Digne snub see Newcastle step up Romain Perraud interest?

It looks like there is no way back for Digne at Goodison Park. With 127 games under his belt for the Toffees, his Premier League experience and crossing ability from the wide areas would have bolstered Eddie Howe’s side.
But although he seems set to stay in the Premier League, it doesn’t look like the Frenchman will be coming to Tyneside.
While the Romano’s Digne update is disappointing, it could potentially intensify Newcastle’s interest in Perraud.
But Southampton’s number 15 has only played nine games in England and after Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl said that the club ‘tracked Perraud for a long time because he fits their profile‘, it would be a surprise to see them part ways with him so soon.

Although predominantly a right-back, Norwich City’s Max Aarons was also a player that is reportedly on Newcastle’s left-back list, according to the Telegraph.
The Canaries are unlikely to want to sell one of their best players to a relegation rival, but they may be tempted if Newcastle submit a tempting offer.
Digne’s snub has reduced the options on Newcastle’s list, but Aarons or Perraud could be targeted in the coming weeks. While one French left-back won’t be joining Newcastle, perhaps another could. This wild January has only just begun.
