Liverpool may help Newcastle land Darwin Nunez this summer

Newcastle United are repeatedly being linked with a summer move for Darwin Nunez.

The Benfica striker was reportedly a target in January, but a move never came to fruition. The Magpies instead looked elsewhere, landing Chris Wood as a replacement for the injured Callum Wilson.

Perhaps Newcastle’s immediate need for a striker pushed them towards the quicker deal for Wood, meaning interest in Nunez was shelved.

But the club reportedly want another striker ahead of next season, and Nunez is once again in the conversation.

The Daily Mail have named a list of possible targets for Newcastle that includes the 22-year-old. Meanwhile, 90min claim that the Magpies have already been in contact with the Uruguayan forward’s representatives.

Newcastle will face serious competition to land Nunez. He has an incredibly long list of suitors, such has been his form this season and his potential to get better.

Nunez recently propelled Benfica to the Champions League quarter finals, and currently has 26 goals in all competitions.

A move to the Premier League could be on the horizon. And it could be down to Liverpool’s Luis Diaz.

Luis Diaz form inspiring Darwin Nunez’s Premier League desire

According to 90min, England is looking like Nunez’s preferred destination. They state that the form of Diaz at Liverpool has helped influence Nunez.

Diaz joined the Reds in January, costing an initial £37million from Porto. He’s swapped Portugal for England and is already thriving.

He’s settled in brilliantly at Anfield, fitting in seamlessly alongside the stars in Jurgen Klopp’s attack. Diaz currently has two Premier League goals to his name.

The 25-year-old has made the transition from Portuguese to English football look easy, and it could inspire Nunez to make the same move.

With a Premier League move for Nunez looking likely, it’s now down to Newcastle to convince him that St James’ Park is the right place for him.

If he does join the Magpies, we owe a small thank you to Liverpool and Luis Diaz.
