Liverpool fans on social media have slammed former Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak for not being fit enough.

Newcastle sold Isak to Liverpool for a British record fee on deadline day but the Reds are still to see the best from the Sweden international.

While Isak did score for Liverpool against Southampton in the Carabao Cup earlier this week, he’s yet to get off the mark in the Premier League this season.

With Hugo Ekitike suspended, the 25-year-old started up front for Arne Slot’s side on Saturday for their first defeat away of the season, away at Crystal Palace.

Isak decided not to train with the Newcastle United squad over the course of pre-season and Reds supporters online were unhappy with his fitness levels.

Liverpool fans criticise Alexander Isak’s fitness

Having dropped points for the first time this season, a section of the Liverpool support online expressed their frustration with Isak’s fitness.

The forward could not do much to stop his team from losing, although admittedly Palace away is currently one of the most difficult games in the division.

“I don’t think Isak is fully fit, he’s looked slow so far,” said another fan.

Another added: “Isak isn’t match fit for a game of this tempo.”

Another tweet read: “Isak isn’t fit at all!

“Isak is so far from match fit. Need to get him fully fit. Would have had Jaden Danns involved today,” wrote another supporter.

When Newcastle United think Alexander Isak will be fully fit

Prior to his departure, those inside Newcastle drew up a bespoke fitness plan for the former Real Sociedad striker in case he stayed at the club.

Having made himself unavailable in the weeks and months before his move to Anfield, they needed to develop some sort of programme to get the player back up to speed.

Interestingly, Newcastle did not think Isak would be fully fit until after the October international break.

Obviously, those inside Anfield will back themselves to get him up to speed as quickly as possible.

However, Isak’s decision to exclude himself from Newcastle United training appears to be costing him during the early stages of his Liverpool career.
