It has been a massive season filled with huge games for Newcastle United, and one Toon player can’t quite believe the opponents he has faced.
While the likes of Kieran Trippier and Bruno Guimaraes are used to taking on the elite, it is a different story for the likes of Lewis Miley.
The 17-year-old was barely used to first-team football when the 2023/24 season kicked off, yet now he has ticked off multiple bucket list moments in the Premier League and the Champions League.
He was outstanding on his first European start away to Paris Saint-Germain, while the assist he got in our final Champions League fixture against AC Milan was fantastic. On top of that, he has excelled against former Premier League champions Manchester United and Chelsea.
It has been quite the start to his senior Toon career, and now Miley has admitted that he has been shocked by the amount of massive games he has been involved in.
This season has been an ‘honour’ for Lewis Miley
Miley has been speaking to the Chronicle, and admitted that he has been surprised to feature in so many incredible fixtures.
“I wasn’t really expecting to play against the big teams that much this season but it has been a real honour for me,” he said.
“I’ve played against some of the best players in world football and hopefully I can keep playing against players like that now.”

Miley can be a big game player for Newcastle in the future
Miley has not looked out of place when sharing the pitch with the likes of Kylian Mbappe. He has looked wise beyond his years, settling in brilliantly at senior level at a time when Eddie Howe really needed him.
Newcastle’s injury crisis meant that Howe had no choice but to play Miley in these massive games, but there will be no regret. The teenager rose to the occasion time and time again, and it will certainly benefit him in the future.
Playing on the grandest stages at such a young age will only have helped his development, especially because he seems so level-headed.
Miley says it has been an honour to feature in so many massive games whilst wearing black and white, while it is proving to be a privilege for fans to watch him blossom into a star.
