Lewis Miley sends message to Newcastle fans on Instagram after Champions League heartbreak

It was a historic game for Lewis Miley, but the Newcastle United midfielder was absolutely gutted to lose out to AC Milan last night.

Despite Miley’s best efforts, Newcastle were unable to secure their spot in the Champions League knockout rounds and now face a quick turnaround back to Premier League football on Saturday.

Miley took to Instagram where he posted a message of encouragement to Newcastle supporters despite the devastating defeat.

Miley made Champions League history against Milan

Since coming into Newcastle’s team at the end of last season, Miley has been a breath of fresh air after years of seeing academy talent being wasted at the football club.

Eddie Howe was so impressed with the 17-year-old last year that he played some meaningful minutes during pre-season and the boss was keen to give him his starting debut during this new campaign.

Last night was the seventh consecutive game that Miley has started due to the number of injuries at Newcastle, but he is yet to look out of place and again looked sharp against Milan.

The Stanley-born midfielder even made history against the Italians after becoming the youngest ever player in the Champions League to provide an assist for an English team after setting up Joelinton for the opener.

On Instagram, Miley said: “Devastated with the outcome of last night. We gave our all but unfortunately we fell short, we go again Saturday!”

Miley has a very bright future at Newcastle

At 17-years-old, Miley has already faced some of the best midfielders in Europe and managed to hold his own, so there really is no telling what he could be like in a few years time.

For what feels like the first time in a long time, Newcastle have a very talented young player on their hands who, given the right coaching and right environment, has the potential to go far in the game.

Of course it’s still very early days and all dependent on how the young man copes with the pressure of emerging as a potential star, but for now, Miley looks like he’s taking it all in his stride.

Newcastle are on the lookout for a new midfielder in January given Sandro Tonali’s lengthy suspension and, while that still looks likely to happen, Howe will be pleased to know that he has a solid alternative option in Miley for the rest of the season.
