Lewis Hall appears to have thanked Newcastle United for their support after he was overlooked in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the 2026 World Cup.

Among a few notable others, Hall was a surprise exclusion from the England squad, which was confirmed on Friday morning.

Nico O’Reilly, Djed Spence, Tino Livramento and Reece James got the nod at full-back instead of Hall in what looks like a brutal call from Tuchel.

Indeed, Hall has been brilliant for Newcastle this season in testing circumstances. There really isn’t much more he could possibly have done.

Still, football at elite level is brutal and Hall has found that out the hard way.

Hall thanks Newcastle United for support on social media

A few hours after the England squad was confirmed, Newcastle United’s official Instagram account posted an image of Hall at St James’ Park.

The caption reflected Hall’s chant among Newcastle fans, reading: “You’re my super Lewis Hall.”

People are blaming Howe for dropping him, but why do YOU think Hall didn’t make the England squad? 🤔

On his own Instagram page, Hall reposted that alongside a praying emoji and a love heart emoji.

The 21-year-old is no doubt in line for quite the reception when Newcastle play Fulham on Sunday.

At times this season, Hall has surely been the best English left-back around. In fact, he’s often seemed as if he should be a guaranteed starter under Tuchel, the man who gave him his senior debut at Chelsea only a few short years ago.

It’s a bitter blow to a season that has collapsed on Tyneside. It certainly feels a very long time ago now when Hall was marking a certain Lamine Yamal out of a Champions League game against Barcelona at St James’ Park.

There will be other World Cups to come for a player of his age. That, however, will almost certainly be scant consolation for Hall right now.
