The World Cup dream is over for Kieran Trippier and England after the Three Lions lost 2-1 to France on Saturday night.

It was a crushing night for Gareth Southgate’s side, having played so well against the world champions only to be on the next plane home. It was particularly agonizing given Harry Kane’s late penalty miss.

While football isn’t coming home, England can certainly hold their heads high. They played really well in Qatar, and came really close to reaching the final four of the competition.

But instead they are heading home, meaning the likes of Trippier, Callum Wilson and Nick Pope can turn their attentions back to Newcastle United.

They are all vital players for Eddie Howe, and important characters too – particularly Trippier. And a story from a reporter out in Qatar has provided another reason to be thankful that Trippier plays for the Magpies right now.

Kieran Trippier involved in lovely World Cup moment

After England’s exit from the World Cup, BeIN Sport reporter Carrie Brown was asked to recount a story from following Southgate’s team in Qatar.

Brown then shared a personal story from after the win over Iran, discussing a Zoom call she had with her parents who both suffer from dementia. The reporter stated that her mother did not believe she was in Qatar and that she should visit her in the care home where she lives.

Brown then proceeded to show her mother the pitch and the dugout, before seeing some of the players in the tunnel. Raheem Sterling then came over, and brought Trippier with him after realising that the broadcaster was talking to her parents in a care home.

The England duo waved and spoke to her parents – a moment that Brown said would stay longer with her than any goal scored at the World Cup.

It was a really heartwarming story from Carrie Brown, and it serves as a reminder why this England team is liked so much. They are good people – a genuine group of lads who you want to get behind.

What Trippier and Sterling did was a selfless act of kindness. Something that didn’t take much effort but will have meant so much to those involved.

Stories like this are lovely to hear, and it is a reminder of what a great person Trippier is. It is an honour to watch him represent Newcastle United.
