Kieran Trippier has played in all three of Newcastle United’s pre-season games so far, and has been really impressed with one of his teammates.
The right-back has started every game, and that is an honour that has also gone to academy graduate Elliot Anderson.
The 20-year-old is enjoying a sensational summer, and is playing with real confidence. He has provided five goal contributions so far, boasting two goals and three assists from games against Gateshead, Rangers and Aston Villa.
Anderson was particularly brilliant against Aston Villa. He was praised for his goal by Allan Saint-Maximin, while Eddie Howe was delighted with his overall performance.
The Toon boss said Anderson was ‘elite’ in and around the box, with the midfielder forcing Newcastle’s second goal of the game too after his shot was parried into the path of Alexander Isak.

The local lad is proving to be a difference maker in the final third, and is catching Trippier’s attention with his performances.
Kieran Trippier hails ‘brilliant’ Elliot Anderson
Trippier has been speaking to the media ahead of Newcastle’s Premier League Summer Series clash with Chelsea. During the press conference, which is available on the club’s YouTube channel, he was asked about the Magpies coming from behind to draw with Aston Villa.
“We showed great character to come back against a tough team in Villa,” he said.
“The young players that came in – Lewey Miley and Elliot [Anderson] who has been brilliant this pre-season. Everyone gave a great account of themselves.
“That’s what we want to do for this football club.”

Sign of things to come for Anderson
It was really nice of Trippier to single Lewis Miley and Anderson out for praise when he wasn’t even asked about Newcastle’s young stars.
It is a testament to how well Anderson is doing this pre-season, as he pushes for more Premier League minutes under Howe.
The youngster played his part last season but no doubt would have liked to have played more. But there were some brilliant performances – the first that springs to mind is the 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest where he was robbed of his first ever senior goal.
Anderson is yet to get a goal or an assist in the Premier League, but that should soon change if he can carry on his form this summer into competitive football.
He really is playing brilliantly right now, and long may it continue.
