A key Newcastle United figure has flown to England ahead of the final few days of the January transfer window.

Newcastle have endured a very quiet transfer window so far with just Javier Manquillo leaving the club permanently while they look no closer to bringing any new faces in any time soon.

According to Craig Hope, Newcastle’s chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan has flown into London ahead of Newcastle’s FA Cup tie at Fulham on Saturday as well as January deadline day.

Newcastle could make late moves in January

Newcastle are struggling massively financially which is exactly why a number of clubs have been looking at some of their players this month to see if they could get themselves a bargain deal.

However, the Magpies have so far refused to budge on their valuations on Kieran Trippier, Miguel Almiron and Callum Wilson who all have had potential suitors in the last week.

While there’s been no concrete bids that Newcastle have considered accepting, there’s still time left in January for a major move to be made which would unlock funds for new players.

This visit of Al-Rumayyan could suggest that Newcastle are preparing to do some big business in the final few days of the month both in terms of incomings and outgoings.

Newcastle are desperate for new faces

There’s a very good possibility that Newcastle don’t sign any new players this month and they finish the season with almost the exact same squad they started it with.

That puts Eddie Howe in a difficult position after having to deal with such disappointments early on like the major injury crisis or exiting the Champions League in the group stage.

This threadbare squad is crying out for fresh legs, especially in the midfield, and while there have been a number of players linked, it seems impossible unless someone big leaves the club in the next month.

It may just be that Newcastle supporters will have to wait until the summer, but with still so much left to play for in the FA Cup and Premier League the lack of signings will hopefully not derail what Howe has built.
