A new striker is believed to be on the agenda for Newcastle United in the January transfer window.
While Newcastle are also said to be on the lookout for a new central midfielder as a priority, the signing of an extra forward is thought to have been discussed.
At their best, both Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson are prolific forwards at Premier League level. The pair, however, are both reasonably prone to injuries and there is no central striking option behind them.
Though Anthony Gordon has chipped in with goals, he is surely better out on the left wing.
With that in mind, Bayer Leverkusen’s Victor Boniface has been touted as a target.
The 22-year-old has scored 14 goals in 21 games since joining the German club from Union Saint-Gilloise for a reported £17m, raising interest from around Europe.
Indeed, it seems Jurgen Klopp is also a big fan.
Victor Boniface: What Jurgen Klopp has said about Newcastle transfer target
Speaking ahead of facing the Nigerian’s former side, the Liverpool manager said during his press conference (via YouTube) of Boniface and former teammate Deniz Undav (now at Brighton): “Good team.
“Lost good players, like really interesting strikers who are doing really impressive stuff now in other leagues. Both in the Bundesliga, actually.”

Victor Boniface: Perfect Newcastle transfer target
At 22 and already impressing in one of Europe’s major leagues, Boniface looks ideal for Newcastle.
With only a few exceptions in Chris Wood and Kieran Trippier, PIF have targeted younger players with a point to prove.
Ripping things up in the Bundesliga and with Wilson ageing, Boniface looks – on paper at least – exactly the type of signing Newcastle would chase.
Clearly making a name for himself amongst the elite, it’s easy to see why there might be interest ahead of the January transfer window.
