Journalist George Caulkin has now shared how likely it is for Newcastle United to make a move for Jose Mourinho who is now out of a job.
News broke this week that Roma were parting ways with Mourinho who led them to the Europa Conference League title 18 months ago, and now rumours tying him to a move to Newcastle have begun.
However, Caulkin, on The Athletic Football Podcast, has now shared that Newcastle will not be trying to persuade the title-winning manager to come to Tyneside and are fully behind Eddie Howe.
Newcastle say no to Mourinho
There’s always going to be a few who still buy into the charm and the history of trophies from the ‘special one’, but most Newcastle fans are saying the same thing, the club need to stick with Howe.
We’ve seen what the 46-year-old can do with a squad that was very recently almost relegated, so he deserves the chance to manage a team full of quality players which is what Newcastle are hoping to bring in in the summer.
Things aren’t going brilliantly at the moment sitting in 10th in the Premier League, but the owners are not hitting the panic button and will refuse to entertain any rumours surrounding Mourinho.
They have placed their faith in the former Bournemouth man and, barring a complete disaster in the next couple of months, it looks like he will be allowed to tackle next season and what will be a very important summer window.
On the podcast, Caulkin said: “Any conversation about Mourinho and Newcastle has to begin and end with the following caveat: it’s not going to happen, not anytime soon. They are fully committed to Eddie Howe.
“Yes, there’s a recognition that they’re going through a tough season and there is pressure, but they always knew it was going to be harder this time. And they also know that they’re way ahead of schedule, largely because of Howe’s work.”

Newcastle baking Howe for the long-term
There’s been so much talk about Newcastle one day needing to go for a winning manager and that Howe isn’t the man to take them to the next level, but winning manager’s have to start somewhere.
Who’s to say that Howe is not the next big thing in football? After all he is still only 46-years-old and has already proven he can compete with top sides after achieving a Champions League finish and a Carabao Cup final last year.
He has his flaws, obviously, but like mots he is still learning and will only improve with the more experience he gets at the top of the game.
In what has become a very fickle industry in recent years, it’s great to see someone given time to develop the club in their own style and hopefully for Howe he can turn this bad spell of form around.
