Jordan Pickford has long been something of a cartoon villain amongst the Newcastle United supporters.
Pickford, of course, came through the ranks at Sunderland before leaving the Black Cats for Everton in 2017.
The 31-year-old has an argument to be considered one of England’s greatest-ever goalkeepers but is not a popular figure at St James’ Park.
Pickford has mocked Newcastle fans before, although to say that hasn’t been reciprocated would of course be unfair.
It’s good to have characters in the game. Pickford is a proud Sunderland fan, so there’s little point in pretending he doesn’t have strong feelings towards Newcastle. The same goes in the other direction. It seems foolish to complain about the lack of spice in modern football and then criticise someone for showing passion.
Unsurprisingly, beating Newcastle is one of Pickford’s favourite things in football.

After signing a new contract with the Toffees, the goalkeeper was asked a series of questions by the club’s media team and the video was posted on their TikTok account.
One of those saw him asked what his favourite-ever away win was over the course of his career.
Pickford said any away win at St James’ Park was amongst his favourites.
“Newcastle away,” he said.

Pickford has made a few mistakes against Newcastle during his career and has conceded a total of 18 goals against the Magpies.
In 14 games against the Toon Army, he’s also kept five clean sheets. Pickford has been on the winning side five times, lost as many and has drawn the other four.
