Toon fans have been sending messages to Jonas Gutierrez, after he responded to a tweet from the official Newcastle United Twitter account.

The former Magpies winger commented the black and white heart emojis, after the club had uploaded an image of St. James’ Park.

The image shows the pitch under a lighting system in order to keep it in good condition.

Newcastle will not be using it this weekend as they are away to Leicester City.

The game is taking place at the King Power Stadium on Sunday, with Newcastle looking to build on their victory over Burnley last weekend.

The photo Newcastle uploaded last night prompted a mixed reaction from fans.

While many obviously noted the beauty of the pitch under the lights and the stands in darkness, others were a little annoyed that the imprint of the Sports Direct signage is still actually visible.

The letting was finally removed earlier this week following the departure of former owner Mike Ashley after the takeover.

This morning, Gutierrez responded to Newcastle’s tweet.

Clearly the club is still very much in the Argentine’s heart.

He was a Newcastle player for seven years between 2008-2015, making 205 appearances for the club.

Gutierrez still loves Newcastle, and the feeling from supporters is mutual.

On social media, a number of Toon fans have been responding to the South American.

Some would really like to see him return to the stadium for a hero’s welcome soon:
