Newcastle United have something of a Brazilian feel about them these days.

Bruno Guimaraes is a fixture in the Brazil squad, albeit his performance in a draw with Venezuela this week was slightly criticised by those in the country’s press.

Then there’s Joelinton.

Derided as a Newcastle flop before the arrival of Eddie Howe, the 27-year-old has now both played and scored for one of the most iconic footballing nations around.

Though currently injured, Joelinton is expected back soon. Watching on from the sidelines, he was full of praise for his Newcastle teammate.

Indeed, with Brazil dropping points in the World Cup qualifiers against a team they were surely expected to beat, Guimaraes posted rather earnestly on Instagram.

After a disappointing result, he wrote: “We know we have a long road ahead with many things to improve. Together we go after our goals.”

To which Joelinton responded: “I am a fan.”

Having Joelinton back will be a huge boost for Newcastle

For Newcastle, the games come thick and fast straight after the international break. In the space of just over two weeks, Howe’s side are in Premier League, Champions League and Carabao Cup action, so it’s clear the Toon boss will need his squad now more than ever.

Able to operate both in central midfield and out wide too, having him free of niggling injuries can only be a major positive.

Reach the same level of form as last season and there’s little reason he cannot get back to joining Guimaraes with Brazil.

Indeed, a World Cup is on the horizon and the idea of Newcastle having two players in the Brazil squad is an extremely pleasing one. Do the business at club level and there’s every chance that may happen.
