It is not only Newcastle United who Bruno Guimaraes stars for.

Indeed, the midfielder might have raised his profile by dazzling for Newcastle but Guimaraes was already a Brazil international when he signed for the club.

While there is big competition for places in one of the most iconic international sides around the footballing globe, the 25-year-old has 15 caps along with one goal.

Included in the Brazil squad for the 2022 World Cup, he continues to be a part of the set-up and has even been joined by Newcastle teammate Joelinton in recent squads.

Often praised for his performances, Brazilian media took something of a different view after watching Guimaraes in action against Venezuala.

What the Brazilian press are now saying about Bruno Guimaraes

Indeed, Brazil drew 1-1 with their South American neighbours in a World Cup qualifier played in the early hours of Friday morning UK time.

Guimaraes, operating in the deeper midfield role he’s been playing in for Newcastle, played in 79 minutes of the game before being replaced by Gerson.

Of his outing, Globo Esporte handed him a 5/10 rating, writing: “He participated less in the game than in his previous appearances for the Seleção.”

Newcastle could do without Guimaraes playing again during the international break

While it’s never nice to see such a key player somewhat criticised, it would be best for Newcastle if their star man sat out the next game for his country.

Brazil are next due to play away in Uruguay during the early hours of Wednesday morning, hardly giving all that much time to rest and recover before Newcastle get back to Premier League duties against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Clearly, they can do little about the traveling now but any chance Guimaraes has to rest would be a major positive for Eddie Howe.

The games come thick and fast after the break and Newcastle need him at his best.
