Having previously been linked with a move to Newcastle, Joe Gomez is set to stay at Liverpool.
The defender has fallen down the pecking order at Anfield, and didn’t play a lot of football last season as the Reds missed out on the quadruple.
That led to speculation that he could leave Jurgen Klopp’s side when the summer transfer window opened.
The summer transfer window is now here, but it appears that Gomez won’t be on the move after all.

Gomez to stay after signing new Liverpool contract
After reports emerged surrounding a new deal, Gomez has now officially signed a contract extension.
The Mirror reported that Liverpool were set to hand the 25-year-old a new contract after the centre-back ‘indicated’ that he wants to remain on Merseyside.
The report stated that Gomez will receive more opportunities to play this season, and will put pen to paper on a deal for the next five years.
It’s a bold decision by the England international. He was Klopp’s fourth choice centre-back last season behind Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konate.

But seemingly more minutes are on the horizon, and Gomez, who has previously been called ‘sensational‘ by Klopp, is going to remain a Red.
Newcastle were linked with the defender
The Mirror add that Newcastle were one of multiple clubs interested in the centre-back. Aston Villa and Roma were also named as potential suitors.
There hasn’t been talk of Gomez coming to St James’ Park all summer. However, he was linked earlier in the year.
The Athletic claimed in February that Newcastle and Villa would be at the front of the queue if he became available.

90min then stated that the Magpies were one of the clubs interested, adding that Gomez wanted to leave Liverpool.
That no longer appears to be the case, with his long-term future set to be at Anfield. However, it isn’t a blow for Newcastle.
We’ve already signed a centre-back this summer, bringing in Sven Botman from Lille. He’s younger than Gomez, and has even been likened to another Liverpool defender in Virgil van Dijk, who he hopes to emulate in the coming years.
Gomez would have been a good signing for Newcastle, but Botman was always our number one target. Eddie Howe has got his man, and it isn’t Liverpool’s number 12.
