The news just doesn’t stop at Newcastle United.
Shortly after reclaiming a place in the Champions League, Newcastle United confirmed a big-name exit.
Indeed, Paul Mitchell will leave his role as sporting director at St James’ Park.
Newcastle confirmed Mitchell is leaving the club on Tuesday, despite only arriving as Dan Ashworth’s replacement just over a year ago.
While Mitchell’s shock departure won’t impact Newcastle’s transfer plans, it will be fascinating to see what happens next.
Eddie Howe wants Newcastle to sign players quickly this summer, while it’s hard to imagine Mitchell going too long without work.
The former Southampton, Tottenham and Monaco guru has a big reputation in the game and talkSPORT presenter Jim White offered a rather cryptic-sounding update on Wednesday.

Jim White says fans “will see something” about Paul Mitchell’s next club soon
The presenter was discussing what Mitchell’s exit meant for both the man himself and Newcastle as a whole while speaking on air with Simon Jordan and Danny Murphy.
During the conversation, White revealed he had come across Mitchell earlier in his career and valued the work he had done at various clubs.
Interestingly, he even suggested supporters would see “something” happen in regard to Mitchell’s future this summer.
“I know Paul Mitchell from time gone, [he’s a] very, very good operator,” he said.
“Strangely, the two [with Eddie Howe] are no longer going to be working shoulder-to-shoulder.
“It’ll be interesting to see where Mitchell goes next and I think this summer, we will see something.”
Why Paul Mitchell left Newcastle United after just a year
The exact reason for his quick-fire departure is yet to be revealed and he will remain in place until the end of June anyway.
Still, the fact it happened so close to a positive end to the season does seem strange.
While it is difficult to know the inside workings at Newcastle, Mitchell cited the fact Newcastle CEO Darren Eales will leave as one of the reasons he’s set to step away from the club.
Eales, who was appointed in July 2022, will leave the club when a successor is appointed due to health reasons.
