Newcastle United co-owner Jamie Reuben has posted a message to the Geordie supporters who made the long and difficult journey to Arsenal last night.
Newcastle simply weren’t at the races against a very good Arsenal team and they were duly punished for their lack of quality and effort during the game.
After the match, Reuben posted on X to thank the Newcastle fans for their unwavering support and pledged that the team would come back stronger.
Newcastle let their fans down vs Arsenal
Last season Newcastle were one of the toughest teams to face in the Premier League and they had bene taking points off of almost everyone in their pursuit of a Champions League spot.
This season, however, they’ve lost that edge to their game which made them so hard to beat and now teams are scoring against them for fun as if they’re playing in a training match.
A lack of quality can be excused as well as not having your best players fit, but not working hard enough for your team will never be accepted at Newcastle.
Reuben and his colleagues have been on an upwards trajectory ever since taking over the club, but now they’re going through a bit of a tricky spell and will need to put a lot of work in this summer to try and get Newcastle competing again.
On social media, Reuben posted: “Not the result we wanted – we will regroup and come back stronger. Thank you to the travelling @NUFC supporters for making what is an especially difficult and long journey this evening.”

Newcastle have lost their identity this season
The one thing that Newcastle could always pride themselves on last season regardless of the result is that they would always put everything into the game with Howe’s high pressing and high intensity style of play.
The head coach has continued with that style this season but it’s not been nearly as effective as it was last year and teams have started to figure out their biggest weaknesses.
Now, they look like a team who has completely lost their identity and are stuck between trying to play with this high intensity but lacking that extra bit of pace and energy particularly in the midfield and defence.
Perhaps they can get back to their traditional style under Howe when players return from injury and are back to full fitness, but for now Howe has to figure out a way to get through this tough patch as their current form suggest things could get worse before they get better.
