Jamie Carragher has dropped his verdict on Newcastle United’s new record signing Nick Woltemade.

The 23-year-old is in the stands for the Magpies’ trip to Elland Road to play Leeds United, but there is no doubt he would have been keen on playing in such an exciting game.

It is currently goalless in the game between Newcastle United and Leeds, despite chances for the likes of William Osula, who has been given his first Premier League start for the club today.

However, it could be one and done for Osula due to the signing of Nick Woltemade, who was confirmed as a Newcastle player earlier on Saturday.

Woltemade cannot wait to start playing for Newcastle after seeing St James’ Park, and he is not alone. As well as the fans, Jamie Carragher is excited to see the towering striker play in the Premier League.

Jamie Carragher drops interesting verdict on Newcastle United signing Nick Woltemade

Jamie Reuben was buzzing when Woltemade was announced, expressing his delight on social media. Elsewhere, Eddie Howe can now relax knowing he has a quality striker at his disposal from the next matchday.

The German’s signing also suggests that Alexander Isak could be pushed closer towards the exit. He is still refusing to play for Newcastle in an attempt to get a move to Liverpool over the line before the transfer deadline on Monday.

It has been a summer full of rejection for Newcastle, with several strikers opting for other Premier League clubs despite serious interest from the Magpies. They have now got a striker over the line, and Carragher cannot wait to see him play.

“They were desperate to get that kind of player in weren’t they Newcastle,” he said during Sky Sports commentary of the game.

“I’ve seen him described as someone who’s really interesting when you think of the size of him. A number 10 in a number 9’s body.”

When can Nick Woltemade make his debut for Newcastle United?

There was hope that Woltemade would be able to play against Leeds on Saturday. However, they were unable to get him registered in time, meaning he had to watch on from the stands.

Unfortunately, fans will have to wait two weeks to see their new striker wear the black and white stripes for his new club, as there is an international break after this gameweek.

That means that the first game Woltemade will be able to play in is against Wolves at St James’ Park on Saturday, 13 September.

However, Woltemade has been included in the German national squad for their two international games against Slovakia and Northern Ireland.

Former Newcastle man Martin Dubravka could be in the Slovakia starting XI when they host the four-time World Cup champions.
