It looks like James Rodriguez is leaving Everton, but he’s reportedly heading to Qatar – not Newcastle United.
That will come as no surprise to Toon fans, who couldn’t believe it earlier this summer when the Colombian was linked with a move to St James’ Park.
At the start of the window, signing only one player would’ve been unthinkable. However, it was always a more realistic possibility than signing someone like James Rodriguez.
But that didn’t stop a ridiculous rumour, with Ekrem Konur claiming that Steve Bruce has requested that Newcastle hold talks with the former Real Madrid man.

Of course, that didn’t happen, but still the tabloids went wild.
When the English transfer window closed, Rodriguez was still at Everton. Incredibly, a move to Newcastle had failed to get past the ‘daft Twitter rumour’ stage. But now it looks like he could be getting a new club after all.
Qatar calls for James Rodriguez
According to the Athletic, Rodriguez is in talks with a club in Qatar about a move away from Everton.
They add that a deal isn’t completed, but the 30-year-old was pictured at Manchester Airport on Sunday evening.
Rodriguez was the star player under Carlo Ancelotti, who was able to convince the Champions League winner to leave Real Madrid and head to Goodison Park.

However, the arrival of former Toon boss Rafa Benitez at Everton has changed things.
It looks like Rodriguez’s Premier League career is over after just a year. Even links of a move to Newcastle couldn’t save him.
In what was a grim summer for Toon fans, the Rodriguez rumour was farcical.
