Jacob Murphy’s nickname for Anthony Gordon is amazing

Jacob Murphy is clearly Newcastle United’s joker in the pack, he’s always doing things to make the Toon Army chuckle and now he’s given our latest addition a wonderfully fitting nickname.

I’m sure we all remember Jacob Murphy‘s cheeky wave to Duje Caleta-Car when the Southampton man was sent off against Newcastle back in January in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg.

Then of course there were his over the top celebrations when Newcastle lifted the trophy after the 5-0 friendly win over Al-Hilal in Riyadh.

Cheeky Murphy gave Gordon the most fitting nickname ever

It seems like Murphy is all about having a laugh and he certainly made me chuckle yesterday when I looked at the comments on Anthony Gordon‘s Instagram post and saw his superb two-word response: “Starboy Malfoy”.

Two words and so much to unpack. I love it. It rhymes, it fits, it’s just genius.

Anthony Gordon replaced Jacob Murphy yesterday and had around 25 minutes to stamp his authority on the game and he did just that. He chased every loose ball, put pressure on the Man United defence at every opportunity and played some really excellent passes into dangerous areas.

He truly is a wizard, and his blonde hair definitely suggests he’s more Malfoy than Potter.

Jacob Murphy is starting to believe

It wouldn’t be right to just praise Murphy for his cheeky side as the former Norwich winger has truly come into his own this season. He’s featured in almost every game for Eddie Howe this season in some way. Now with Miguel Almiron’s injury, he’s making that right-wing place his own.

Many fans wondered why he’d kept his place when Gordon was fit, but I think he’d earned that start after his last couple of outings and he staked another strong claim to keep his place on Wednesday when Newcastle take on West Ham.

There’s a feeling in the Newcastle camp that Murphy’s biggest problem is self-belief. Staff are very aware that he’s got the talent to be a top player, he just doesn’t seem to be able to convince himself of that fact. Although now it looks like he’s starting to believe.
