Jacob Murphy celebrates wildly after Newcastle win a trophy...for a friendly

Newcastle United won a trophy on Thursday night (kind of), and Jacob Murphy celebrated like he had won the World Cup afterwards.

The Magpies beat Al Hilal 5-0 in Riyadh, with Miguel Almiron and Joelinton scoring two each before Dylan Stephenson netted the fifth.

It was an impressive performance from Eddie Howe’s side, who look sharp and ready for the Premier League to return later this month.

There is also a cup clash on the horizon, with Newcastle facing Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup. Fans are desperate to advance, as the club looks to end its trophy drought.

And on Thursday we got a glimpse of what it would be like to see Newcastle lift a trophy.

While it was just a friendly, the game against Al Hilal was branded as the Diriyah Season Cup. That meant the Newcastle players got a medal for their efforts, and there was also a trophy on offer.

Captain Jamaal Lascelles lifted it high above his head, while Dan Burn gave it a kiss during the post-match lap of honour.

However, it wasn’t a usual trophy celebration. The players weren’t passing it round and posing for pictures, well aware that it was only a friendly.

But that didn’t stop Jacob Murphy.

The £12million winger took the trophy off of Lascelles, and celebrated wildly in front of the travelling Newcastle support.

Murphy raised the surprisingly big trophy high in the air with a beaming smile on his face, acting as if it genuinely was a major honour.

It was obviously in jest, and it was hilarious to see Murphy go for it so much as the entire team stood behind him and watched.

Miguel Almiron recently claimed that Murphy is Newcastle’s funniest player, and his trophy antics on Thursday proved that he is always up for a laugh.
