Jacob Murphy has done an interview with the club’s website after signing a new contract, and Newcastle fans are falling love with him.
The 26-year-old has extended his stay at St James’ Park, agreeing a huge six-year deal.
Murphy had been linked with an exit for months, with the likes of Rangers and Burnley reportedly keen.
But he’s going nowhere, and a six-year deal indicates that the Magpies have big plans for Murphy.
It’s been a remarkable 12 months the boyhood Newcastle fan.
This time last year he was still on loan on in the Championship for Sheffield Wednesday. It looked like he had no future on Tyneside.
He joined the club in 2017 for £12million, and looked to have been a waste of money.
But the 2020/21 Premier League season was one to remember, and has brought Murphy’s Toon career to life.
He excelled in the second half of the campaign, playing out of position as a right wing-back.
By the end of the season, Murphy had scored twice and provided three Premier League assists.
Now he’s got a new contract, and seems to be absolutely buzzing about it.
“I know what it takes to play for this club,” Murphy said.
“I know there’s 52,000 out there that would die for this opportunity and I’m here getting to do that, day in and day out, so I won’t let them down.
“I’ll keep working hard. I’ll keep trying to be that inspiration, that story of hard work.”
